The film is dominated with reds and greens that sparks with strong colors. It's not a great film, Horror Hounds, but it is hilariously awful.Īvailable on Blu-ray - September 24, 2019ĭiscs: Blu-ray Disc Two-disc set DVD copy These murderous antics make for a lot of unplanned hilarity, especially when slow-moving cars suddenly burst into flames and, one by one, Larry discovers his friends are dying in weird ways and his wife, not possessed by the ghost, is becoming even weirder. With loopy green-tinted special effects, the ghost’s activities are made obvious to us, tipping over statues and trying to kill Saxon. But, choosing not to believe such things, they agree to live in the beautiful house. They are told the backstory of Alma Martin, who was poisoned by her cheating husband, and are told that help caring for the house might be difficult because the islanders believe the house to be haunted by her vengeful spirit. Thing is, Casa Fortuna comes with a restless spirit. Paced in a manner that would make watching paint dry interesting, Beyond Evil – after an interesting opening in which a woman is spotted in the window of a large mansion – settles into a story about a move-in gone wrong when newlyweds Larry ( Saxon) and Barbara ( George) are offered that mansion to live in while living on the island.

It comes with a special limited edition embossed slipcover, designed by Earl Kessler Jr., and is limited to 2,000 units and is only available through their store at.

While the movie is saved only by its unintentional humor, Vinegar Syndrome has newly restored this film (in a 2K scan) from 35mm archival film elements and issued it on Blu-ray. It’s the movie itself that is one giant miss. It’s only saved by the unintentional humor found in Linda Day George’s performance and the solid score from composer Pino Donaggio, whose recognizable strings seem to be found everywhere during this time period. There’s not an original bone in its body, which is unfortunate when you have the always cool Saxon involved in a horror film.

But, hey, at least we can laugh about it, though!ĭirected by Graduation Day’s Herb Freed, Beyond Evilsteals from Suspiria, Exorcist, Amityville Horror and just about every other horror film popular during the time of its release. Sometimes a bad movie is EXACTLY what it appears to be. It doesn’t matter how they are baked and this movie, about a 100-year-old spirit who possesses his wife and then shoots lasers out of her eyes while killing their friends, is fog machine-soaked proof. Tropical turkeys like Beyond Evil aren’t going to EVER taste good.
#Beyond evil rating series
There is a point in the show, which will be very evident if you watch it around episode 8 or 9 where they should have ended the series and it would have been brilliant, instead they drag it on for 16 episodes, forcing in so many twists and turns and sheer unbelievable coincidences for the sake of “Drama” that it really detracts from the overall goodwill the early episodes had."It’s only saved by the unintentional humor found in Linda Day George’s performance" The show is brilliant at intrigue and better than most Netflix originals I’ve seen lately, but it goes on for too long. There’s a loaded statement so let me explain. Now Beyond Evil is a show that could have been great.
#Beyond evil rating serial
It’s primarily a serial killer murder mystery set in a small town, with about ten major characters and everyone is a suspect. And perhaps most importantly the shows, however clichéd or campy they may be are very story and character focused.Įnter ‘Beyond Evil’ the new thriller drama from Korea you can catch on Netflix right now. There’s a certain campiness to it that is often annoying and yes overacting and confusion due to certain cultural differences exist, but damn are these some good-looking shows.įrom cinematography, to set design and wardrobe these shows have really stepped up the game far beyond most other Asian productions. Now, at the time of writing I have only seen 3 Korean productions and I’ll admit it’s not perfect. Also the message comes off as either forced or often pandering.īut luckily America is not the only country that offers high quality productions anymore, and that’s where the Korean drama’s come into play. The problem with playing politics in your shows whose primary function is to entertain is that it often comes at the expense of the story. As someone who primarily enjoys western productions over everything else, it has been strange seeing almost every new show that America makes have some level of its political climate crammed into it.
